The start of something beautiful

The start of something beautiful

If you had told me a while back that I’d be spending my days turning trading cards into custom, hand-painted works of art, I probably would’ve laughed and said... you can't make a living out of that! Yet here we are, making a living out of it! — Welcome to Steph’s Fantastique Atelier!

I’ve been painting professionally for over 15 years, and I’ve been playing Magic: The Gathering for about 6 years now. For the longest time, those two worlds lived in completely separate lanes in my life—one was my career, and the other was my ultimate way to unwind. The moment it finally clicked to mash them together was an absolute godsend, and quite literally. Bringing deep technical illustration techniques onto a tiny 2.5x3.5-inch canvas felt both completely chaotic and instantly right.

Getting to this launch day has been a complete rollercoaster. There were moments of high-energy excitement, endless late-night painting sessions and an unreasonable amount of time spent without drinking water. Because I forget to drink when I'm hyper focused. It’s been overwhelming, thrilling, and deeply rewarding all at once.

This atelier was born out of a genuine love for illustration, games, and the incredible community that surrounds them. To me, a card isn't just cardboard —it’s a tiny canvas waiting for a story. My goal with every single alter is to bring 100% original artwork to life, creating something truly unique that you can feel proud to play, display, or collect.

Building this from the ground up has taken a lot of heart, precision, and a bit of perfectionism (okay, maybe a lot of perfectionism). But seeing this space finally open and ready for collectors makes every chaotic step worth it.

Thank you so much for dropping by, supporting independent art, and being part of this new chapter. Whether you’re here to just browse or collaborate on a full co-design, I’m so glad you’re along for the ride.

This is only the beginning of the atelier—and it truly feels like the start of something beautiful. Let’s make some art!

— Steph
